Continuing to catch up; longest treadmill run yet

After my 10 miles on the treadmill on Saturday and a 21 mile week, I picked up a couple miles on the annual pace and continued to exceed the monthly pace. As noted earlier, the marathon training plan weekly distances continue to grow until the taper weeks in late April. This week includes runs of 4, 5, 4, and 11 for 24 total miles and a gain of 5 miles over the normal weekly pace.

Here's the progress to date.
  • Jan (complete) - 68 running, 27 walking, 95 overall
  • Feb (in progress) - 56 running, 40 walking, 96 overall
  • Total (in progress) - 124 running, 67 walking, 191 overall
  • Normal Pace (year to date) - 137.0 miles
  • Normal Pace (month to date) - 52.0 miles
  • Normal Pace (week) - 19.18 miles
  • Normal Pace (day) - 2.74 miles

100 miles down!

Following my marathon prep schedule, I ran 8 miles on Saturday and crossed the 100 mile barrier on day 42. Running that distance on the treadmill is less than fun or ideal, but winter arrived in full force on Thursday so I didn't have an option. At this point - through Feb 12 - I have completed 103 miles of running.
  • Jan (complete) - 68 running, 27 walking, 95 overall
  • Feb (in progress) - 35 running, 25 walking, 60 overall
  • Total (in progress) - 103 running, 52 walking, 155 overall
  • Normal Pace (year) - 117.8 miles
  • Normal Pace (month) - 32.8 miles
Only 14 miles off-pace for the year and ahead of pace for the month, and my self-propelled pace (running + walking) continues to far exceed the normal pace distances. If my marathon training continues, I should stay well ahead of pace until my tapering in late April, as every week until then exceeds 20 miles (19.2 per week is enough to keep me above pace). The problem with the marathon training is the weather and the long weekend runs - I have to do 10 miles this weekend, and with the amount of snow we picked up I don't think outdoor running will be an option. Sure, I could do it, but with no sidewalks cleared it becomes an exercise of running on the road with massive walls of snow to block any potential bailout when cars aren't paying attention or are too close for comfort. Maybe things will clear up by the time I'm doing the mid-teen distances... we'll see. For now, it'll be a lot of Narcos, maybe a return to Penny Dreadful, and other Netflix and On Demand series...

My first marathon

No, I didn't run it yet, but I'm working towards the Providence Marathon in May. Mapped out my training plan - I used their half-marathon training plan back when I ran my PB so I figured I'd start there. Week 4 starts today.

Continuing to ramp up on the mileage - I'm at 84 miles through Feb 5 (with 3 more to be added tonight). January finished at 68 miles - not too shabby - so that means I'm sitting at 16 miles through 5 days of Feb - ahead of the 13.5 mile pace if I was doing 2.7 each day!

Add in my walking miles and fuggedaboudit - I'm doing 3+ miles with the dog 4 or 5 times a week lately - I've already walked 15 miles with him in Feb and over 42 miles this year, for a self-propelled total of 126 miles in 36 days (3.5 miles per day on average).
  • Jan (complete) - 68 running, 27 walking, 95 overall
  • Feb (in progress) - 16 running, 15 walking, 31 overall
  • Total (in progress) - 84 running, 42 walking, 126 overall
